A Book Than Has Changed My Life

The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho

1 Paragraph Warm-Up

Many books have changed my life, my views, my hopes and dreams, aspirations, opinions… but the one book that stands out the most, is also one of the shortest books I’ve ever read. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho changed my life in under 200 pages. How so? Well, I think back on it often, and it often reminds to look within for what I seek before looking elsewhere. This has been a pillar for me while continually building and working on the person I am. I am always reflecting on what I can do to be a better person, and how to love myself more. This book enforces the fact that we always have the tools we need, we just need to be reminded to look within to find them. Without giving anything away, it is a captivating short read, and one I plan to read many times in my future.

Paulo Coelho’s enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following around the world. This story, dazzling in its powerful simplicity and inspiring wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is an eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts. —Goodreads
